  • Iberia is planning for a record 21.4 million seats in summer 2026, with a 7.6% increase on Europe–Latin America routes. Buenos Aires is now its largest long-haul destination with 23 weekly routes from Madrid and 456,000 seats available this summer (+12% vs. 2025).
  • New direct routes are strengthening connectivity: Madrid–Monterrey launched June 2, 2026 (3 weekly flights). Madrid–Recife and Madrid–Fortaleza, which opened in December 2025 and January 2026, helped lift Iberia's summer 2026 capacity to Brazil by 15%, and Iberia plans an 18% increase in Brazil seats for winter 2026–27, with daily Recife flights from December 1, 2026, to February 14, 2027.
  • Low-cost carriers continue to expand at twice the pace of legacy airlines on regional routes, improving access to destinations previously out of reach for Latin American middle-class travelers.
  • Mexican outbound travel is growing, with residents' international tourist trips up 7.1% YoY in July 2026 and spending abroad by Mexican tourists up 21.0%.

  • Miami remains the top U.S. destination for Latin American travelers, with Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Venezuela, and Mexico among its largest source markets.
  • Spain is seeing notable tourism growth in 2026. Madrid was named the best European destination of the year by European Best Destinations, recognized for its cultural and culinary offerings and its role as a hub between Europe and Latin America. Barcelona and Ibiza continue to be magnets for Latin American travelers.
  • Brazil remains a top choice, with 6.45 million international arrivals from January to August 2026, led by Argentina (2.24 million) and Chile (548,000). Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Iguazú, and the Amazon lead demand.
  • Japan, Thailand, and Dubai are emerging destinations that continue to grow in popularity. Madeira (Portugal) was named the world's number-one trending destination for 2026 by Tripadvisor.

🌎 Key Travel Motivations Among Latin American Travelers
  • Family and cultural travel: 74% of Latino travelers travel with extended family, driving group bookings and demand for larger accommodations; the same share prioritizes cultural experiences at the destination. Social media and influencers are a primary source of travel inspiration for more than 50% of Latino travelers.
  • Wellness and health tourism: Growing interest in destinations offering wellness programming, local gastronomy, and medical tourism, particularly among travelers from Argentina and Colombia.
  • Corporate and bleisure travel: Business travel spending by Brazil-based travelers, domestic and international, is projected to grow 13.8% in 2026, the fastest among the world's 15 largest markets, with a growing tendency to extend work trips with leisure days.

  • International travel from Mexico is mainly to the United States, Spain, and the Caribbean, with Mexican tourists' international spending up 21.0% YoY in July 2026. Mexico City and Guadalajara account for the largest share of those traveling abroad.
🇦🇷🇨🇴 Argentina & Colombia — Outbound Engines
  • Argentina and Colombia rank among the top source markets for Brazil, Europe, and the United States, but are moving in opposite directions: trips abroad by Argentine resident tourists fell 18.3% YoY in August 2026, while Colombians' trips to the U.S. rose 6.1% and to Brazil 8.2% from January to July 2026.
🇨🇱🇵🇪 Chile & Peru — Long-Haul Growth
  • Chile and Peru are showing accelerated growth in long-haul flights, with new direct routes to Europe, including the launch of Level (low-cost carrier) service from Barcelona to Lima on June 3, 2026.
🌎 Intra-Regional Routes
  • Intra-regional travel continues to dominate. Argentina remains the largest source of visitors to Brazil by total volume, with 2.24 million arrivals from January to August 2026.
